The following article describes the process to install LM-X License Server in a Windows Server environment and apply a license to it. At the end of the article.
1. LM-X License Server Installation
Before proceeding, make sure you downloaded the latest version we provide for the LM-X License Server.
The following article is where you can download LM-X License Server.
After having the files downloaded, first unzip the content.
You should see the following information after it's unzipped:
- liblmxvendor.dll
- lmx-enduser-tools_win64_x64.msi
To install, execute the MSI file and follow the instructions below:
First, click on Next.
Then, read the EULA and accept the agreement at the end (if you agree).
Now, select the destination folder where the program will be installed (it's highly recommended to leave the default folder).
In the next part, you need to provide a DLL to continue. To do this, first make sure that the options below are the same on your side.
Now, click on Browse (), this will prompt a new window where you need to select the liblmxvendor.dll included in the ZIP previously extracted. Use the image below as a reference.
Now, the installer should look as follows.
At this point, what is left is clicking on Next and installing the LM-X License Server.
The service will be stopped after the installation; we recommend starting the service after you apply a license.
2. License Request for Visure
After installing LM-X License Server, you must send an "LM-X Host ID" (a text file with information required to generate the license) file to the Visure License Team (licensing@visuresolutions.com); we will process this with the PO and forward you the license upon its generation.
The LM-X Host ID can be generated using the LM-X Configuration Tool, which is bundled with the installation of the LM-X License Server.
Follow the next steps to generate this file:
- On Windows, search for "LM-X Configuration Tool"; this should display an application like this:
- After opening the app, you should see this:
- In the bottom left corner, a button labeled as "Save To File" must be clicked; this will allow you to save the LM-X Host ID.
After saving the LM-X Host ID, forward it to the Visure License Team with your PO, or after the PO.
We will generate a license with the details of your purchase.
3. Apply a License to LM-X License Server
After you purchase a license from Visure, you should receive a file with the extension .LIC: This file is what the license is.
To apply this license, you need to follow the next steps:
- Copy the LIC file you received from Visure.
- Go to the installation folder of LM-X License Server, which is on:
"C:\Program Files\X-Formation\LM-X End-user Tools 5.4 x64" (unless you changed the default installation folder) - Paste the LIC file here.
- Restart/Start the LM-X License Server Service.
If this is the first license you have, you need to start the service from LM-X; if it is not, you need to restart this service.
The service can be started or restarted from the services on Windows.
This can be done by following these steps:
- Press the following combination of keys:
Windows + R - A prompt window should be displayed; type services.msc and press OK.
- When the services are displayed, locate the service called "LM-X license server", then start the service if it is not started; otherwise, restart the service.
To validate that the license is correctly applied, you can open the LM-X Configuration Tool and position it over the third tab called "Query License Server", then type "localhost" and port 6200.
By pressing on "Perform", the information of licenses available and consumed should be displayed:
